Course Preview #3

Movie Production

This class has been a PB favorite for several years. As a part of the production track, this course lets students participate in every aspect of making a short film. They begin with concept development, forming groups and establishing a story, characters, and plot for their film. Some students even go so far as to write out a script. Then they take turns in front of and behind the camera, working as actors, directors, cinematographers, and sound operators as they gather all their footage. Throughout the entire process, a counselor is there as a helpful guide, also teaching lessons on establishing shots, b-roll, framing, and other important film making terms.

After the projects have been shot, each student sits down at their own computer to begin the editing process using Microsoft's Pinnacle Studio. Using that program, they'll be able to add in titles, remove green screens, and cut together their footage however they like. They'll also add their own soundtracks to the project, and every student will leave with a copy of their completed film on DVD to share with family and friends!

Course Preview #2

Maya 3D Animation
Animation has long been one of the most popular courses at PlanetBravo's Techno-tainment Camp. For the past couple years, students entering 4th & 5th grade could take our Flash 2D Animation course, reserving Maya 3D Animation only for grades 6 and above. This year, however, we're changing all that. We've made Maya available to all students not in the Multimedia Youth Track, bringing the industry standard in 3D animation to the majority of our camp.

Now when I say "the industry standard," that's not any sort of exaggeration. A vast majority of recent animated films have used Maya for their animation, including Ice Age and Monsters vs. Aliens. More recently, James Cameron partially used Maya in the making of his record breaking best seller Avatar (along with After Effects, which we use in our Special Effects class). Students at PlanetBravo's Techno-tainment camp will get to learn all the basics of this program, creating 3D models, lighting effects, and keyframes.

Multimedia Arts
This class is a great place to start for our youngest campers. As a part of the Multimedia Youth Track, this course is only available for students entering grades 2 & 3. Throughout this class, students are introduced to all the programs, websites, and electronics we consider essential in today's technological world. From photo editing in Photoshop to slide shows in Powerpoint, music creation in Acid Music to video editing with Pinnacle Studio, Multimedia Arts students will cover a wide variety of topics and master them all!

To unify all the many areas of study in this course, students make themselves into a corporation. They'll make ads, slide shows, commercials and more for a make-believe business of their choice. Each lesson will progress them through their multimedia marketing campaign, with everything coming together in one unified project at the end.

If you've already signed up for class, it'll give you a better idea of what to expect when you sit down at the computer. If you're still on the fence, maybe this will nudge you in the right direction to sign up for camp!

The first one will be posted later today, so keep your eyes peeled!

Keep on Thumpin' everybody.
